|Method||Four-variable Equation (other testing parameters apply)|
What is it used for?
Loosely linked to the octane number of a fuel, the calculated cetane index is a function of density and volatility of a given fuel, giving an indication of the likely efficiency of the fuel, and therefore, the quality of the fuel.
How does it work?
A relatively simple calculation is performed based on the determined values of distillate fuels from density and distillation recovery temperature measurements.
What do the results tell us?
The cetane index gives us an indication of the likely efficiency of the fuel, and therefore, the quality of the fuel.
