What is it used for?
Determining the weight per volume of the fluid sample. It can be an indicator of lubricant mixing or confirmation of specification, as an indicator of a mixture of bio oil and mineral oil, for example.
How does it work?
A portion of the sample is pushed through an automatic density meter using a syringe, giving a reading. To find the density of any sample, you need to know both the mass and volume. Divide the mass by the volume in order to get a density value.
What do the results tell us?
The density of the sample in terms of kg per cubic metre or other equivalent unit.
