Understanding the root cause of shaft and coupling failures by review of the unique patterns, known as “beach marks”, generated through progression of a fault through to eventual failure.
Techniques such as hardness testing, electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis are then also used to review metallurgy and properties of the materials of the component to assess for suitability and to look at metallurgical faults.
